Newton Commuter Rail Stations Accessibility Improvements

Commuter Rail train passes through Auburndale Station

We’re planning accessibility upgrades at three Commuter Rail stations on the Framingham/Worcester Line in Newton. Currently, the existing low-level single side platforms can only be accessed by stairways at Auburndale, West Newton, and Newtonville stations.

Status: Design Development phase, progressing from 30% to 75%

Project Features

This project will address the MBTA’s reliability and modernization needs at each station, including track and signal upgrades.

Improvements include two fully accessible, high-level side platforms at each station and accessible pathways to each platform from the adjacent sidewalk network and station parking areas.

Building a Better T

As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
