Red Line Floating Slab Work 87% Complete

We resumed floating slab work between Harvard and Alewife on the Red Line in January 2020.
During some of the weekend shutdowns for this work, we will also replace rail to keep the tracks in a state of good repair and support the new Red Line vehicles coming into service.

As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
What We’ve Completed
In January 2020, our crews resumed floating slab work in tandem with track replacement to meet an accelerated schedule. The floating slab project is now 87% complete.
Since January 2020, we’ve:
- Poured a total of 57 floating slab pads and demolished 30 additional pads for upcoming replacement between Harvard, Porter, and Davis stations.
- Replaced 4,800 feet of rail on Harvard and Porter’s northbound and southbound sides.
- Replaced 230 restraining rail bolts through the curve entering Alewife Station.
