See Accelerated Red Line Work We Completed During a Full Service Shutdown

From June 18 – July 1, we shut down service on the Red Line to allow for accelerated work on Red Line Maintenance and South Shore Garages projects. As part of this work, crews are replacing track and rail ties, repairing the concrete at Quincy Adams Station as well as replacing an elevator.

Work We’ve Completed
During the thirteen-day Red Line shutdown, crews continued to make progress on these 2 major renovation projects. To date, we've:
- Overhauled all fare gates at Quincy Center Station.
- Removed and replaced 3,000 wood rail ties.
- Reconstructed the truck pad at the Watertown maintenance facility.
- Installed new signal cabling along the northbound tracks.
- Completed 300 LF of full track replacement.
- Resurfaced/retamped the tracks from Braintree Station to Quincy Adams Station.
- Trimmed back tree overgrowth along inbound tracks.
- Installed a new fire alarm device above the Quincy Adams subway platform.
