We’re replacing the bridge that carries the Newburyport/Rockport Line over Commercial Street in Lynn between River Works and Lynn stations.

On Monday, March 28, we’ll begin major construction work. This is expected to last through December 2022.

Building a Better T

As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.

What to Expect During This Work

Commercial Street will generally be open to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, except during certain weekend closures. We’ll notify the public of closures in advance, and will provide a signed detour route.

Work will include a combination of weekday, weeknight, weekend day, and weekend night shifts. The schedule for this major infrastructure project is weather dependent, and subject to change without notice.

Before major construction activities, we’ll install electronic message signs that will display the most up-to-date information.

Neighborhood impacts

To minimize delays, we encourage drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes during construction periods.

If we expect that any of this work will have significant noise or traffic impacts on the neighborhood, we will send updates via email. If you would like to receive project updates, please sign up below and bookmark this page for additional information.
