Red Line Test Track Project 88% Complete

Updated on December 26, 2019

Workers bring a new Red Line car onto the test track at Cabot Yard in October 2019.

We've been working on infrastructure investments that will help bring new Red Line vehicles into service:

  • Construction of the new Red Line test track is complete. We installed new track, power, and third rail, and the first stage of vehicle testing has started.
  • We also installed an access track with a direct connection to Cabot Yard for faster delivery, testing, and commissioning of new Red Line vehicles.
  • Construction of the vehicle testing facility and preparation for the new power substation is expected to be completed in winter 2020.

We look forward to the role these upgrades will play in bringing the new Red Line fleet into service.
