South Coast Rail to Run Weekday and Weekend Service

Commuter Rail riders in southeastern Massachusetts will be able to take direct trips to and from Boston for the first time since the late 1950s. Service is expected to begin in spring 2025 and run on weekdays and weekends.

As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.

Scheduled Service Overview

Weekdays

Trains are expected to run about every 70 minutes on weekdays. There will be:

  • 32 trips between South Station and East Taunton
  • 15 trips between South Station and Fall River
  • 17 trips between South Station and New Bedford

Additional train service will run between East Taunton, Fall River, and New Bedford stations to provide more travel options and frequent connections during off-peak times.

Weekends

Trains are expected to run about every 120 minutes on weekends. There will be 26 trips between East Taunton, Fall River, New Bedford, and Boston.

Late-night service will be offered to all South Coast Rail stations, with the last train leaving Boston just before midnight.

Fares

Riders traveling between Boston and any South Coast Rail station will pay the Zone 8 fare. This is the same fare charged at Middleborough/Lakeville station.

Parking

All South Coast Rail stations will offer parking. Accessible parking spots and electric vehicle charging stations will be available.

Parking will cost $4 per day on weekdays and $2 per day on weekends and holidays—the same parking rate as similar Commuter Rail stations.
