Pedestrian Detours at Worcester Union Station Begin March 12

Worcester Union Station is undergoing significant platform, track, and accessibility improvements, including the construction of a new high-level central platform. Beginning in March 2022, riders will access the train at a temporary boarding area adjacent to the parking lot.
Accessing the Temporary Boarding Area
Please allow an extra 10 minutes to access the train at the temporary boarding area.
March 12 – 13 pedestrian detour
During the weekend of March 12 – 13, 2022, a temporary pedestrian detour from Union Station to the boarding area will be in use while the longer-term pedestrian detour is prepared.
To get to the temporary boarding area from the entrance to Union Station:
- Turn away from the main station entrance
- Continue toward the right following the Washington Square rotary
- Stay on Shrewsbury Street and look for the parking lot on the right
- Enter the lower parking lot adjacent to Shrewsbury Street—the temporary boarding area adjoins the parking lot
Signage will be available to direct riders from the station, and transit ambassadors will be on site to direct riders to the temporary boarding area.

Pedestrian detour starting March 14
From March 14 onward, signage will direct riders from the parking garage through Union Station, then lead them through the rotunda to the temporary platform at the east end of the station. Riders will also be able to access the temporary platform from the Commuter Rail parking lot.
The parking lot will remain open during construction. Some spots will be unavailable during some phases of the project. Accessible spaces remain available, and there is a designated drop-off point near the ramp to allow full access to the platform.
